Why Is It So Important to Celebrate Father’s Day?
Some Key Highlights of Father’s Day Around the World
Before moving further to discuss the importance of celebrating Father’s Day, let us first look at some of the key highlights of Father’s Day celebration around the world:
History of Father’s Day
The origin of Father’s Day dates back to the year 1909, which was proposed by Ms. Sonora Dodd, daughter of Henry Jackson from Spokane. After she lost her mother during her birth, his father took complete responsibility for her & her five sisters. One day while Sonora was attending a mother’s day celebration, it hit her that if there is a day in honor of the mother’s then why can’t there be a day in honor of fathers too?
Since then, Sonora started working hard for years to make her idea of Father’s Day a reality. Finally, In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge recognized Father’s Day, and in 1972, President Richard Nixon allotted the third Sunday of June as the permanent national Father’s Day celebration.
Importance of Father’s on Our Lives
Personally, I don’t think it is required to remind you of the importance of having a Father in your life. Fathers are priceless and can never be replaced by any other man. A father is someone who teaches us how to be a good man, how to succeed in life, and how to tackle our life problems. A father is someone who is always there for us whenever we need guidance or support in our lives. Often, we put the role of fathers as secondary to the love of mothers. But it is a fact that all of us know that a father is as important to us as a mother.
Father is someone who spent his life in crisis, away from the town so that his family could live happily in the city. A father is someone who always went out to check whenever there is a strange noise outside. A father is someone who always had some extra pocket money when we were broke. Even though he sometimes irritates us with his lame jokes and carelessness, we love him because he was always there whenever his family needed him.
However, not everyone has a father in their lives. Though with the evolving world, the idea of “Father” is also evolving. It is not necessary to have a blood relation with a man to call him your father. There are lots of men out there who have showered equal love to some kids without a biological father so that they don’t miss their Dads. Hence, this Father’s Day is not just for the Dads, but also for all the fatherly figures in our lives who have made us who we are today. This is the day to thank all of the fatherly figures in our lives to shower upon us with so much love & warmth at every step of our lives.
Significance of Celebrating Father’s Day
Why is it so important to celebrate Father’s Day? People say that the observance of this day is of great importance for the preservation of the faith. Fathers sacrifice their whole life working hard so that they can provide a rich lifestyle to their children. The sacrifice, however, sometimes gets unappreciated due to the equipped life. That is why there has been one day specified for celebrating the contribution of our fathers: Father’s Day.
Father’s Day celebration is a great opportunity for us to thank our fathers for all the love & affection he has showered upon us since childhood. A day out of the year for Father’s Day reminds Dads of the acknowledgment of his efforts by his kids and the society as a whole. That is why the kids on Father’s Day plan for various activities & gifts for their Dads that can bring a smile to his face.
Besides, Father’s Day is also an opportunity to bring the kids closer to their Dads. Most of the grown-up kids go out & get busy in their lives. They merely get some time off of their life to spend some time with their fathers. However, on Father’s Day, the kids plan their complete day to spend with their Dads, making up for all the busy days.
Hence, it is quite evident that Father’s Day is not just a day but something more than that. It’s a day completely dedicated in honor of the affection & sacrifices done by our loving Dads for us.
